Please join us on Sunday, November 23 at 2:00 p.m. for a memorial service in honor of the late Milt Davis, a beloved Los Angeles teacher/coach and All-Pro defensive back. Dr. Davis started for the winning Baltimore Colts in the 1958 NFL championship game that is often called “the greatest game ever played.” He set an NFL record for interceptions among all players with at least 25 games–27 passes in 45 games -– that still stands.
The memorial service will be held at UCLA's James West Alumni Center, just north of Parking Lot 6. Click here for a map (PDF).
Dr. Davis, who earned his doctorate in education and played football as an undergraduate at UCLA, died of cancer on Monday, September 29th at his Oregon home. Councilmember LaBonge organized this public memorial service at UCLA, Davis’ alma mater, to give Angelenos the opportunity to pay their respects to Davis, who was widely admired.
“Milt Davis was my coach, my mentor and my good friend,” said Councilmember LaBonge, who played under Dr. Davis at Los Angeles Community College. “He was also a truly great man who deserves to be honored by our city for his contributions as a player, a teacher and a leader.”
Please join us on Thursday, Nov. 20th at 9:30 a.m. for the ribbon-cutting on the Vermont Triangle urban design project. The concrete traffic triangle at the intersection of Hollywood Blvd. and Vermont and Prospect avenues has been transformed into a community green space with seating, lighting, trees and grass. This is a project of Councilmember LaBonge, the Community Redevelopment Authority and the Greater Griffith Park Neighborhood Council.
