This Thursday, Jan. 31, at 10 a.m. we'll be dedicating the new Griffith Park Adult Community Center with hundreds of seniors. This long-sought-after center, located next to Friendship Auditorium, will offer anyone 50 years or older a place to socialize, take classes, participate in a city-sponsored nutrition program and many other activities. Councilmember LaBonge and Dept. of Recreation and Parks general manager Jon Kirk Mukri will cut the ribbon alongside members of the Griffith Park Adult Community Club who were instrumental in seeing this facility come about. Refreshments will be served. The GPACC is located at 3201 Riverside Drive, across from the Mulholland Fountain at Riverside and Los Feliz Blvd.
Councilmember Tom LaBonge will be joined by students of Yavneh Hebrew Academy and Third Street School to plant trees in celebration of Tu B’Shvat, Jewish Arbor Day, tomorrow, Friday, January 18 at 8:30 a.m. on the front lawn of Yavneh. The school campuses are across the street from one another on Third Street east of Highland Avenue.
The rains have returned, the ground is moist and so conditions are good for planting trees.
Join Councilmember LaBonge and other volunteers to plant trees in the Cedar Grove area of Griffith Park this Saturday, January 12 at 8:30 a.m. This area of the park was particularly hard hit and the slopes were scorched, resulting in a severe loss of vegetation.
We'll assemble along Vista del Valle north of the Commonwealth nursery.
We hope to see you Saturday!
Join Councilmember Tom LaBonge and the Sister Cities of Los Angeles, Inc. tonight for the 22nd Annual Elvis Birthday Bash at The Music Box in Hollywood!
The concert is open to the public at $25 a ticket and features performances by 37 separate and distinct acts – from the Blasters to Fred Willard to the Surfaris to Billy Sheets. Proceeds will go toward the LAFD Fallen Firefighters Memorial Foundation.
“This year, the Elvis Birthday Bash is bigger and better than ever,” said Councilmember LaBonge. “Come out and remember the King with some great bands while also supporting the Fallen Firefighters Memorial Foundation.”
