Come celebrate Gary Cooper’s birthday in style with a free screening of Frank Capra’s 1941 comedy-drama classic "Meet John Doe" in Council District Four!
The North Hollywood Regional branch of the Los Angeles Public Library will screen the Academy Award-nominated film starring Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck on Saturday, May 31 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.; stick around after the film for a slice of birthday cake!

Climbing on fire trucks and eating flapjacks may be every child's idea of a fun time. On Fire Service Recognition Day, you can do both. On Saturday, May 10th, every neighborhood fire station in Los Angeles is hosting an Open House for kids of all ages. Fire Station #27 in Hollywood, Station #86 in Toluca Lake and Station #56 in Silver Lake are also holding pancake breakfasts in the morning as well. In attendance to commemorate the one-year anniversary will be Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Councilmember Tom LaBonge, General Manager Jon Kirk Mukri of the Department of Recreation and Parks, and Chief Douglas Barry of the Los Angeles Fire Department, among others.
Please help us recall the monumental effort made by firefighters, park rangers and others who protected Los Feliz residents, the historic Merry-Go-Round, the Griffith Observatory and the Greek Theater during the devastating, 1,200-acre fire.
The event takes place just North of the Greek Theater, Vermont Canyon Rd., in Griffith Park on Thursday, May 8 at 10 a.m.
