Councilmember Tom LaBonge dedicated a full signal at Odin Street, Cahuenga Blvd. (east) and the Hollywood Freeway this past Monday, Dec. 10. This t-section intersection that connects a network of streets from the Hollywood Bowl, going under the Hollywood Freeway, to Cahuenga Boulevard on the east side, has been the scene of numerous accidents over the years. Prior to the signal installation, the intersection was confusing for motorists to figure out with three different traffic commands.

“This has been a priority of mine for several years, but had to work out the logistics with CalTrans, which has had jurisdiction of this intersection, to be able to install this signal,” said Councilmember LaBonge. “We’re very pleased that this day has finally arrived. Nothing is more important than making Los Angeles safe – for motorists and pedestrians especially.”

"The Mayor’s transportation initiatives are to increase the convenience, reliability, safety and speed of Los Angeles’ transportation system. This new traffic signal will improve conditions for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists alike. LADOT thanks Councilmember Tom LaBonge and CALTRANS, for supporting this installation,” said LADOT General Manager Rita L. Robinson in a prepared statement.

When Highland Avenue was relinquished by the state and jurisdiction returned to the City of Los Angeles two years ago, approximately $3.2 million was transferred to fund various improvement projects on the street, including funds to cover the cost of this signal. Other improvements elsewhere on Highland Avenue continue.

Also on hand for the dedication were John Fisher and Glenn Ogura from the Dept. of Transportation, and a representative from LAPD West Traffic Bureau; representatives from area Neighborhood Councils included Hollywood United Neighborhood Council and the California Highway Patrol.
